Anadol was Turkey's first domestic mass-production passenger vehicle, manufactured by Otosan Otomobil Sanayii A.S. at the factory in Istanbul Kadikoy Hasanpasa between 1966 and 1984. First model FW5 (Four Wheeler 5) was a 2-door Anadol and it has been manufactured by serial code A1. All following models have been coded “A” . Although the different models have not been named by a specific code by Otosan, regarding to the body types, we tried to code these models, like UK and German car manufacturers, as MkI for the A1 model manufactured between 1966/12-1972/04 and MkII for the A1 model between 1972/04-1976/01. The first manufactured model A1 MkI has been designed by UK’s Ogle Design and developed by UK’s Reliant Motor Company. The body of the car was made of fiber glass and the car was powered by Ford Kent engine with cast iron block. Front suspension system was adapted from 1965 Triumph and the rear suspension and axle system from 1965 Ford Cortina Mk1 models. Transmission system was manual straight 4 and rear wheel drive (RWD). Discs were used at front for the brakes and drums at rear. Although the Anadol production has started on December 19th 1966, the necessary traffic approvals, certificates and documents have been granted on February 28th 1967 from the authorities. However, the sales of the car have started on January 12th 1967 and first car has been delivered to Mr. Erkan Ozaksun with licence plate no. 34 HE 858 at the same date. A1 model was on production from 1966/12 till 1976/01 as MkI and MkII and been manufactured totally 19.724 cars |
