A2 MkII

A2 Mk1 has been replaced by A2 MkII in April 1972. In 1971, in dedication to the Mediterranean Games (Akdeniz Oyunlari) that took place in Izmir-Turkey, Otosan has developed MkII type and this design has been called Anadol Akdeniz (Anadol Meditarrenean).

By this MkII, the two round headlamps at front were replaced with rectangular shape headlamps and signals were at the out-sides of the headlamps. At rear, the signal and stop lights were the same with the Ford Transit mini-vans, but replaced horizontally.  The bumpers and the front grille (from fibre) design were changed and a new transmission system was introduced. On the dashboard, there were two Smiths gauges: on the left a speedometer and on the right another gauge with water temperature and fuel indicators . The interior design and the materiel of the cabin have been upgrated and the exterior of the roof was covered with vinyl, in accordance with the fashion of that period.

The engine is 54 HP (5500 rpm) 1298cc Ford Kent Crossflow OHV  with cast iron block.

The 5-seat body is built from fibre glass and affixed to an H-frame chassis. The chassis has independent front suspension utilising coil springs and leaf springs on a live axle for the rear. Brake system is mono hyrolic system with disc in the front and drum in the rear. Servo could be possible as optional. Hand brake, replaced at the left of one piece front seat, is mechanical and brake lever connected by a cable to another lever at rear axle. Cluch system is cable. Gear box with cast iron block, is Ford type 2 model with manual transmission. Steering system is rack and pinion.

A2 is also the first “crash test” applied car of Turkey. Even though A2 has been developed as a family car, it has also got a big success in commercial use as “taxi” and “dolmus”.
A2 MkII has been manufactured between 1972/4-1975/12 and 20.267 cars were produced. By the year 1976, A2 SL  has appared after A2 MkII.
